“He immediately called out his soldiers and officers and ran down among the crowd. When the mob saw the commander and the troops coming, they stopped beating Paul.”
Acts 21:32 (NLT)
Paul is dragged out of the temple because accusations have filled the city. These men from Asia assumed what Paul had done with Trophimus, and that assumption turned into a mob, a riot, and an uproar. They began beating a man who had done nothing wrong. Paul had actually come to support and love the Jerusalem church, but lies made the crowd treat him like he was unworthy of a trial.
That is how Satan works. Jesus calls him the accuser, and he is a liar by nature. Accusation is not truth. It is not wisdom. It is not knowledge. It is a lie meant to stir confusion, anger, pain, and sin. The enemy will use every accusation he can to make believers feel like they are nothing, even when they are doing good, moving in God’s direction, and following His will.
But in the middle of the beating, the man in charge hears what is happening. The commander comes with soldiers and officers, and as soon as the crowd sees authority and order coming, the beating stops. That picture moves me because we serve the Lord of Heaven’s armies. When we call out to El Shaddai, Almighty God, He hears His children and sends help into the middle of the chaos caused by Satan’s lies.
When our Commander shows up, everything changes. He can silence the accusations, stop the beating, and squash whatever has come against us. 1 Peter 5:7 says to give all our worries and cares to God because He cares about what happens to us. God carries our burdens when we cast them upon Him. So no matter what attack you are facing today, call upon the Lord, cast the burden on Him, and expect the One in charge of everything to show up in the middle of your uproar.
