“So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies.”
Romans 1:24 (NLT)
God made Himself abundantly clear to us through the beauty of the earth and sky, which reveal His eternal power and divine nature. Yet man exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for images of mere man, birds, animals, and reptiles. We changed the truth of God into a lie and worshiped creation instead of the Creator.
When we tried to become like God, determine what was worthy of worship, and put God in a box, we chose not to worship the Creator. As a result, God let us run into the shameful things our hearts desired. But sin is not only a rejection of God’s order and His way. It degrades us, dishonors our bodies, and brings pain and suffering into our lives.
Why would we trade the truth of God for the lies of men? God’s world and His order are bigger, better, more beautiful, and intended for our good. Yet we become fools when we ignore His thoughts and His ways for our own. We draw away from a relationship with Him and bring the consequences of sin upon ourselves when we follow our foolish ideas.
Still, God’s kindness and mercy provided a way out. God sent His Son to die on a cross and raised Him from the grave so that we could become a new creation in Christ. We no longer have to be children of wrath. We can be children of God, restored to a relationship with Him, freed from the effects of sin, and able to stop harming ourselves. Today, let’s praise the One who is blessed forever, worthy of all honor and worship. Let’s show that we are children of God by becoming children of praise. He is the only One worthy of our worship.
