Wait for Him in the Boat

“Then they were eager to let him in the boat, and immediately they arrived at their destination!”

John 6:21 (NLT)

The disciples went down to the shore and waited for Jesus. But when darkness came and He still hadn’t returned, they got in the boat without Him. The Holy Spirit showed me something simple today: waiting for Jesus is better than rowing without Him. Don’t start moving just because it’s getting dark.

Without Him, the wind rose and the water grew rough. They rowed three or four miles—only halfway. That’s what happens when we try to carry life in our own strength. We exhaust ourselves and still end up stuck in the middle of the storm.

When Jesus came walking on the water, they were terrified. Sometimes we’re more afraid of His power than the storm. We cling to familiar chains because the light exposes what we’d rather keep hidden. But Jesus doesn’t come to shame us—He comes to be with us.

John leaves out Peter walking on water because the point here isn’t what we can do—it’s what happens when Jesus gets in the boat. The moment they welcomed Him, they immediately arrived. Wait for Jesus. Let Him get in the boat.
