“But some became stubborn, rejecting his message and publicly speaking against the Way. So Paul left the synagogue and took the believers with him. Then he held daily discussions at the lecture hall of Tyrannus.”
Acts 19:9 (NLT)
Paul preached boldly in the synagogue for three months, helping people see the Kingdom of God and the way of life Jesus brings. Some believed the message. They desired relationship with God through Jesus, confessed Him as Lord, and entered the Kingdom by changing their way of life. They were being set apart spiritually and physically.
But others rejected the message. They would not receive it for themselves, and they publicly spoke against the Way so others would reject it too. The Way was not just a name for Christians in Acts. It described a visibly different life, because Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. His teaching changes our hearts and our way of living.
That is why Paul left the synagogue and took the believers with him. He was not only moving locations. He was protecting followers of the Way and making room for them to go deeper in their faith. The same Paul who once persecuted this way of life was now living it, defending it, and inviting others into the Way.
Paul’s message still confronts us today. Jesus is not calling us to believe in Him and stay enslaved to our old way of life. In John 8, Jesus said those who keep obeying His teachings are truly His disciples, and embracing His truth will set them free. Following the Way makes us a son, not a slave. So today, I pray we will not reject the Way or speak against it. I pray we will embrace living as sons and daughters of God by doing things God’s way, not our way.
