Picture this: You’ve spent years in prison. They told you what to wear, when to eat, where to sleep, and how to behave. If you followed the rules, you might get privileges—or maybe even an early release. But once you’re out, would you ever want to go back? Of course not. You’d want to enjoy your freedom.
That’s exactly what Paul is confronting in Colossians 2. When we go back to rule-based living, it’s like voluntarily walking back into the prison—even though Jesus already unlocked the door.
Man-made rules, even religious ones, can’t save us. Only Jesus does. We’re not meant to live by legalism or lifeless checklists. We are called to live by the Spirit.
Jesus didn’t just unlock the door—He destroyed the power of the rules that once imprisoned us. So why keep putting the chains back on? The SAME power that breaks chains now lives in you. Use it!
