Low is the Way Up

“So don’t make judgments about anyone ahead of time—before the Lord returns. For he will bring our darkest secrets to light and will reveal our private motives. Then God will give to each one whatever praise is due.”

1 Corinthians 4:5 (NLT)

Paul’s words hit hard: everything we have is a gift—so what are we bragging about? He warns us not to judge prematurely because only God sees the full picture. One day, He’ll expose what’s hidden, even our motives. What seemed impressive may be empty. And what looked small may echo in eternity.

But here’s what stands out: God will give praise. He will affirm the humble, the faithful, the unseen. It’s not man’s approval we live for—but His.

And if you keep reading, you see what that humility looks like. Paul says he’s hungry, thirsty, beaten, homeless, and mocked. He works with tired hands. He blesses those who curse him. He’s patient when abused. He’s gentle when slandered. He’s not trying to look powerful—he’s living surrendered.

This is the path we’re invited to follow. When the world tempts you to be impressive, Jesus calls you to be faithful. Stay low. Serve humbly. And trust that God sees—and will reward—what no one else can.
