“So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 5:21 (NLT)
Adam opened the doorway for sin to come into the world. Sin spread. It destroyed. It condemned. And it killed. The Law of Moses came in and magnified the sin, made us so much more aware of our grievances against God. But even though sin increased through the revealing of God’s standards, grace has abounded all the more.
Adam’s disobedience led to many people being made into sinners. But through one man’s obedience, Jesus Christ, many are going to be made righteous in God’s sight. His one act of righteousness, to die for us, leads to justification and life for all those who believe in God through Jesus. God’s grace is in excess of sin every single time. Grace has outpaced, has outlasted, and outrun sin. Now grace is reigning. Grace is ruling. Grace is in charge because of Jesus.
So today, is there any sin, any unrighteousness, any area where you don’t think you can be forgiven, restored, or redeemed? This passage clarifies over and over again that grace has more power. It is in greater number, greater size, greater weight, and more significance than sin. By the blood of Jesus, grace has abounded more in every area where sin increased.
Eternal life is God’s free gift through Jesus. Romans 6:23 reveals that. When we accept a relationship with Jesus Christ, grace allows us to reign in this life, but also to reach eternity. When we trust in this grace, when we receive this free gift from God through a saving faith in Jesus Christ, we can have life today and life eternal. We have life forever, with Him.
