Don’t Gloss Over It

“As they rode along, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “Look! There’s some water! Why can’t I be baptized?””

Acts ‭8‬:‭36‬ ‭(NLT‬‬)

Philip didn’t plan a roadside baptism, but the eunuch was ready to obey the Lord. He hears the good news about Jesus and gets excited. When the eunuch spots water he doesn’t negotiate, delay, or overthink it—he asks, “Why can’t I be baptized?” There’s a confidence in that question. He’s not looking for a loophole; he’s looking for the next step.

Obedience often shows up like that—an unplanned fork in the road where Holy Spirit puts something right in front of us. We can talk ourselves out of it, promise we’ll do it later, or wait for a “better time.” But delayed obedience is still disobedience. When God gives you an opportunity to honor him, don’t gloss over it. Just do it.

Then Philip disappears. The Spirit of the Lord snatches him away, and the eunuch never sees him again. Yet the eunuch isn’t shaken—he gets back in the carriage and goes on his way rejoicing. That’s the mark of a real encounter with Jesus: your joy isn’t anchored to the people who helped you find him. The eunuch’s faith wasn’t in the man of God, but in the God of the man of God.

So what’s in front of you today? Is there something God has told you to do that you’ve been postponing? And are you distracted by what leaders are doing instead of staying focused on the Lord? Be like the eunuch—obey when the opportunity is there, and keep moving down the road rejoicing because you have Jesus. He is more than enough for you.
