Do You Want Him?

“So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.”

Romans 5:11 (NLT)

While we were still enemies, God reconciled us to Himself through the death of His Son. We’ve been made right with God through Jesus’ blood. How much more can we be confident that we will be delivered from the judgment of God we deserved? We should certainly rejoice because we’re certainly saved and certainly delivered. We are friends of God because of what Jesus did, not anything we’ve done.

But does it look like it in your life? When we have a friend, we want to talk, spend time, and do things with them. If we don’t want to engage with God, maybe we don’t believe we’re worthy through Jesus’ blood to talk to Him, be with Him, and do life with Him. Or we’re still content being our own god. If He’s given us eternal life, why do we need Him today? We say, “I got this.” But we don’t got this.

Reconciliation is like God taking us back to Eden, where we could walk and talk with Him. That’s what Jesus’ death bought for us. If this doesn’t excite us, maybe we’ve been seeking God for what He can give us instead of who He is. That’s the difference between a partnership and a friendship. If God’s just another business deal, it feels transactional. Friendship means we want Him. We love Him. We want to honor Him.

Our reconciliation with God isn’t going to run out. Hebrews 7:25 shows us Jesus is our High Priest, constantly interceding for us, so our salvation will be completed. Colossians 1:20–22 shows us we are without blemish and free from accusation through Christ. These scriptures address the person who doesn’t feel worthy to treat God like a friend. This closeness is completely paid for, and God’s not going anywhere. So today, are you happy about this friendship with God? Does your life show that?
