“A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart…What you say flows from what is in your heart.” Luke 6:45 (NLT)
What’s stored in your heart always finds its way to the surface. Jesus says it plainly: your words and actions are fruit—and the fruit always matches the root.
Right after this, He says, “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say?” (v. 46). He’s not changing the subject—He’s exposing the root.
If our hearts are full of God’s Word, our lives will reflect His ways. If our roots go deep into His truth, the fruit will show it. But if our obedience is surface-level, eventually it’ll rot.
Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” And Proverbs 4:23 reminds us, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”
Being a good tree isn’t about image—it’s about what’s underground. Your roots. Your source. What no one sees. That’s where obedience begins.
So check your roots. What are you feeding them? What are you storing? Because whatever’s down there… will come out.
