“Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.””
Acts 9:6 (NLT)
A powerful light from heaven falls around Saul, and he hits the ground as Jesus says, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” Saul asks, “Who are you, sir?” and Jesus answers, “I’m Jesus, the one you’re persecuting.” Jesus wasn’t physically there anymore, but to persecute his church and his followers is to persecute him.
What moves me is the love of Jesus toward Saul. Saul has been persecuting him, yet Jesus comes near, confronts him, and gives him instruction. The same Jesus Saul has opposed is the one who died for Saul on the cross. And in the face of Saul’s sin, Jesus doesn’t crush him—he calls him.
Then Jesus says, “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” Saul is obedient. He doesn’t delay. He doesn’t argue with the Master. He goes without knowing the next step, and it reminds me of Abraham—by faith he obeyed when he was called to leave home and went without knowing where he was going.
We often want the destination and the full roadmap before we obey, but faith goes without knowing and trusts the One who does know. God’s word is a lamp to our feet, not a floodlight down the road. So is there something today Jesus has told you to do that you keep rebutting with excuses? If he’s spoken, that’s enough to take the next step. It’s time to go today. Don’t delay.
