Refusing to See

“But the Jewish leaders still refused to believe the man had been blind and could now see, so they called in his parents.”

John 9:18 (NLT)

The Pharisees had testimony from everyone—the crowd, the healed man, and eventually his parents. Yet they refused to believe. Their understanding, traditions, and rigid interpretations kept them blind. The very ones who claimed to see were the ones who could not recognize the truth standing in front of them.

This moment exposes a deeper question for us: Is there anything God is trying to show me—through His Word, through others, or through His Spirit—that I am refusing to believe? Sometimes we stay stuck because we cling to our version of truth instead of submitting to His. Sometimes we doubt because we don’t think God will do for us what we’ve seen Him do for others.

But when we believe Jesus is who He says He is, and that He can do what He says He can do, everything changes. Like the blind beggar, obedience and trust open our eyes. Refusing to believe keeps us bound. Believing Jesus sets us free.

What healing, breakthrough, direction, or truth are you resisting? Don’t imitate the Pharisees who rejected the miracle and insulted the one who received it. Learn from the healed man. Trust Jesus. Receive what He is offering you today.
