“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
Philippians 4:8 (NLT)
Have you ever been driving and stared at something on the side of the road? If you do it too long, the car will start veering that direction. You have to jerk your attention back onto the road and the car follows suit. What you focus on is where you end up!
Our actions in life are rooted in what we think about. Paul is coaching us to use this to our benefit. If we FIX our thoughts on who God is, what God did, or what God is going to do, we will give Him PRAISE. If we FIX our thoughts on the good in our coworker, we will honor them. If we FIX our thoughts on the excellence in our church, we will be compelled to invite people to join us.
We choose what we fix our thoughts on. If we choose to focus on what the devil is doing, the sin in our neighbor, or the ineffectiveness of our church, then what will that cause us to do? We sit still, we shrink back, we worry, we complain, and the list goes on.
Let’s fix our thoughts on the right things today. It determines where we will end up.
