“You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.”
2 Timothy 2:2 (NLT)
Paul told Timothy to be strong—not by working out or chasing what the world offers, but through the grace of God that comes from relationship with Jesus. Strength for ministry comes from Christ alone.
He gave Timothy a picture: be like a soldier who divorces himself from civilian distractions. You can’t teach God’s truth if you’re consumed by the world’s truth. The world’s distractions are like junk food—they keep you busy but never feed your soul.
Paul also centers Timothy on the simplicity of the gospel: Jesus Christ, a descendant of David, was raised from the dead. That is the good news we preach! Paul endured everything so others could find salvation. If we die with Christ, we’ll live with Him. If we endure, we’ll reign. Even when we are unfaithful, God remains faithful because He cannot deny Himself.
Don’t hide your light. Don’t bury what God has entrusted to you. Share the truth, pass it on, and watch the gospel replicate itself in the lives of others.
