Stop Fighting God

“But if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God!””

Acts ‭5‬:‭39‬ (‭NLT‬‬)

In Acts 5:39, Peter and the apostles are being persecuted by the high council. After they preached to them, the council became furious—so furious they intended to murder them. But God! A Pharisee named Gamaliel—honored by all the people and an expert in the law—stood up and ordered the apostles sent outside so he could speak to the council.

Gamaliel reminded them of Theudas and Judas of Galilee: men who pretended to be somebody great, gathered followers, were killed, and their movements came to nothing. Then he gave this counsel: let the apostles go. If this movement is their own, it will fizzle out. But if God is behind it, you will not be able to overthrow them—you may even find yourselves fighting against God.

That’s big. You can’t stop God. And if you try, you’re fighting against Him, and that always ends in defeat. Proverbs 21:30 says no human wisdom or understanding or plan can stand against the Lord. His purposes will stand, not ours. And if we can’t stop God from doing something, we also can’t make God do something.

So today, stop fighting God. Don’t pray against His will. Don’t come up with schemes or ways to go against what He has told you to do. Instead, surrender to Jesus right there in the middle of what you can’t control. Abide in Him—trust that no scheme of the enemy or of man can stop what God wants to accomplish. What He wants to occur will eventually occur—maybe not in the way we think—but His will is going to stand. God always wins in the end.
