“The servants who are ready and waiting for his return will be rewarded. I tell you the truth, he himself will seat them, put on an apron, and serve them as they sit and eat!”
Luke 12:37 (NLT)
Almost all of Luke 12 is Jesus talking—so we must listen closely.
In verses 22–34, Jesus warns that worldly worry leads to worldly striving: stockpiling wealth, securing ourselves, and living consumed by what the world expects.
Then in verses 35–48, Jesus shows us what a ready servant looks like: dressed for service, keeping lamps burning, actively stewarding what God entrusts us with.
Being ready means seeking the Kingdom of God first, obeying God’s Word daily, serving others faithfully, and trusting Jesus fully. It’s being consumed with God’s priorities rather than our anxieties. Worry keeps us busy with what the world values, but readiness keeps us faithful with what matters eternally.
And the reward is stunning: Christ Himself will serve those in eternity who serve Him here on earth.
