“Believers must not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling. Instead, they should be gentle and show true humility to everyone.”
Titus 3:2 (NLT)
Paul told Titus to remind the church. Why? Because we forget. We slip back into the old way of living—foolish, disobedient, enslaved to pleasures, filled with envy and hate. That’s who we were. But then God showed His kindness and mercy. He saved us, washed us, and gave us new life through the Holy Spirit. Because of Jesus, we’re made right with God and given confidence of eternal life.
That means gentleness and humility aren’t just ideals—they’re possible. The Spirit makes them possible. Quarreling and slander are empty battles where both sides leave weaker, but humility and unity display the gospel at work in us. Division isn’t a small issue; Paul warns that those who persist in it turn away from the truth—turn away from Christ Himself.
So what does doing good look like? Meeting urgent needs, carrying each other’s burdens, choosing generosity over selfishness. It’s not complicated, but it requires surrender. If Christ gave His life for us, surely we can give our lives in service to others. That’s how the gospel moves from words to witness.
