“He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.”
Titus 2:14 (NLT)
Paul urged Titus to promote living that matched sound teaching. For older men, this meant wisdom, respect, self-control, and patient love that flows from faith. For older women, it meant living godly lives, avoiding gossip and indulgence, and instead training younger women to love their families, live wisely, and honor God in their homes. That’s not optional—without it, the Word of God is shamed.
For younger men, Paul’s command was short but powerful: live wisely. And Titus himself was to lead by example, showing integrity and seriousness in his teaching so that the truth could not be criticized. When leaders live this way, even those who oppose the gospel are left ashamed.
Paul also applied the gospel to daily work. Employees were to be trustworthy, respectful, and diligent, showing honesty in all things. Why? Because a faithful worker makes the teaching about God attractive in every way. Our conduct in the workplace is a living advertisement for the gospel.
At the center of it all is Jesus, who gave His life to free us from every sin, to purify us, and to make us His very own people—people totally committed to doing good. This is what makes us different. If we belong to Christ, our lives should no longer mirror the world.
