“John answered their questions by saying, ‘I baptize you with water; but someone is coming soon who is greater than I am… He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.’” Luke 3:16 NLT
John’s words still echo today. Water baptism is a beautiful step of faith—an outward confession of what Jesus has done within (Romans 6:4). Yet John also spoke of another kind of baptism… one that only Jesus could give.
John said Jesus would baptize us with the Holy Spirit and fire. This wasn’t just poetic—it was a promise of power (Acts 1:5, 8). The Spirit comes not just to be with us, but to fill us with power. The Holy Spirit guides, strengthens, and refines us like fire purifies gold (Malachi 3:2–3).
In Acts 8 and Acts 19, believers were baptized in water and later received the Spirit. It wasn’t a contradiction—it was an invitation to more. The disciples asked the new believers in Acts if they had received this power when they believed. It is just as important of a question today.
Through this baptism, the Spirit gives us a heavenly prayer language—enabling us to pray beyond our understanding, exactly when and how we need to (Romans 8).
Ask Jesus today to fill you with the Holy Spirit. Be WORD-fed and Spirit-led.
