Waiting With Expectation

“They arrived in Caesarea the following day. Cornelius was waiting for them and had called together his relatives and close friends.”

Acts ‭10‬:‭24‬ ‭(NLT‬‬)

Cornelius was waiting with expectation. Earlier in this story, we see his prayers and gifts to the poor received by God like an offering. So when Peter arrives, Cornelius doesn’t treat it like a casual visit—he gathers his relatives and close friends because he believes this message from the Lord is worth everyone hearing.

That hits me. How many times have I received something from God and kept it to myself? I knew I was going to hear a word I could share, but fear kept my mouth closed. I assumed people wouldn’t care, or I convinced myself they didn’t need it.

Cornelius is almost acting like an evangelist before he’s even heard the message of Jesus. He has a heart that already desires to worship God, to live in the fear of Him, to do what God says, and to be generous to others. His generosity didn’t stop with gifts to the poor—it showed up in how he gave his time and attention so the people closest to him wouldn’t miss what God was doing. Follow his example and be generous with what God has given you.

And those friends and relatives waited. Verse 30 tells us it was four days after Cornelius had that vision and sent for Peter, so they stayed there in anticipation and expectation for the message to come. That’s a picture of what I need in my own life: to be still and wait in the presence of God, not getting out ahead of Him, but sitting ready to hear Him speak—because He will speak, and His word never fails. Is there anything in your life today you need to wait in expectation for God to answer?
