Better That He Left

“Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today.”

Acts 2:33 (NLT)

After Peter explains what David was doing in Psalms 16, he shows how David looked into the future and spoke of the Messiah’s resurrection—saying God would not leave him among the dead. Then Peter says plainly that God raised Jesus from the dead, and we’re all witnesses of this.

But in Acts 2:33, Peter brings it into focus: Jesus is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven at God’s right hand. Because Jesus is resurrected and ascended, God, as he promised, gave Jesus the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as they saw and heard that day.

This is the fulfillment of what Jesus said in John 16:7: it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the advocate—comforter, encourager, counselor—won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. This gift was so important that Jesus said it was better that he left so that we could receive it.

Holy Spirit is our helper to guide us each day, and Acts 1:8 shows we receive power to be witnesses. I need a fresh wind of Holy Spirit in my life, and I’m praying for a fresh wind of Holy Spirit in your life too, so others can see and hear the power of God and have their lives changed.
