Look Up

“After saying all these things, Jesus looked up to heaven and said, ‘Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you.’”

John 17:1 (NLT)

Before Jesus prays for His disciples in John 17, He does something simple but powerful — He looks up. This wasn’t the only time. Jesus looked up when He multiplied the loaves and fish, when He healed the deaf man, and when He called Lazarus out of the grave. Each time, His focus was clear: heaven first.

Peter walked on water while his eyes were on Jesus. He only began to sink when he looked down at the wind and waves. Jesus shows us the opposite posture — not fixing our attention on fear, pain, pressure, the past, or what everyone else is doing, but lifting our eyes to the Father.

The Psalms say, “I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth!” Psalm 121:1–2 (NLT). That is the posture of faith. Looking up realigns the heart, restores peace, and steadies the soul.

Today, don’t pray with your eyes on the storm. Lift them toward heaven. Your help is not in what you see around you — it is in the One you look to.
