“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand.”
John 10:28–29 (NLT)
Jesus keeps explaining what it means to be our Good Shepherd because He wants us to believe in Him. The Jewish leaders didn’t receive His teaching, but I’m thankful these words were recorded because they’re helping me believe better today. I’m still amazed that the Son of God called Himself a shepherd—a low position, a humble role, yet He chose it to reveal who He is.
David was overlooked by his own father because he was out caring for the sheep. Yet that shepherd’s heart was what God valued, and I wonder if that’s part of why David was a man after God’s own heart. Jesus goes even lower—He not only shepherds us, He laid His life down for us.
What struck me today is the certainty of eternal life. Jesus gives it, and no one can take it away. When I try to earn worthiness, I live insecure and afraid. But when I live from the truth that eternal life is settled, I walk with peace instead of fear. Fear is a terrible driver. Peace empowers obedience.
Then Jesus says something that shook me—we are a gift from the Father to the Son. I know my flaws, my failures, my limits… yet the Father still gave me to Jesus. That’s not pride-fueling; it’s humbling. Jesus knows my name. He formed me, planned my purpose, saved me, and washed me clean. And because I am a gift to Him, He protects me from the enemy’s hand.
Abba Father is more powerful than anyone. We are protected. We have nothing to fear.
