“Many among the crowds at the Temple believed in him. ‘After all,’ they said, ‘would you expect the Messiah to do more miraculous signs than this man has done?’”
John 7:31 (NLT)
The people of Jerusalem thought they knew everything about Jesus—where He came from, what He was, and what He wasn’t. Yet their own assumptions exposed how little they truly understood. They believed He was from Galilee, not realizing the prophecy in Micah had already been fulfilled in Bethlehem. They tried to use “what they knew” to disprove Him, but all they really proved was that they didn’t know Him at all.
Jesus answered their comments with clarity and authority: “You know where I grew up, but you don’t know the One who sent Me.” These were men who studied Scripture yet missed God. Their pursuit was information, position, and influence—not the Father’s heart. Knowledge without intimacy blinded them to the very Messiah standing in front of them.
But others in the crowd saw something different. Their logic was simple and pure: How much more proof do we need? No one had ever done what Jesus did. His miracles, authority, compassion, and power left them with only one conclusion—this must be the One sent from God.
Jesus still reveals Himself through the miraculous things He’s done in our lives. And the call today is the same: remember what He’s already done, recognize His hand on your life, and believe Him for what you need today. He has given us more than enough evidence—our part is simply to trust.
