Turn Down the World

“Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.”

1 John 2:15 (NLT)

The world makes a lot of noise—offering comfort, status, and temporary satisfaction. But John reminds us that these cravings for pleasure, possessions, and pride don’t come from the Father. They come from a system designed to distract our hearts from loving Him fully. The love of the world and the love of God cannot coexist—they’re oil and water. You can try to hold both, but one will always push the other out.

Jesus faced the same temptations in the wilderness—physical hunger, worldly glory, and self-exaltation—and every time, He answered with Scripture. He didn’t compromise; He chose the Father’s will over His flesh. That’s our model.

Every day, we choose who we’ll serve. Will we chase what fades, or love what lasts forever? The world keeps shouting, but God keeps whispering, “Come closer.” Let’s turn down the world and turn up His Word—because only one of them leads to life.
