Follow the Instructions

“I am writing these things to you now, even though I hope to be with you soon, so that if I am delayed, you will know how people must conduct themselves in the household of God. This is the church of the living God, which is the pillar and foundation of the truth.”

1 Timothy 3:14–15 (NLT)

Paul reminded Timothy that he didn’t have to be physically present for the church to be strong—God’s instructions, written and followed, would be enough. I’ve learned this lesson the hard way with furniture or toys. I thought I could skip the instructions, only to end up frustrated and redoing the whole thing.

God’s Word is not optional. It’s reliable, unlimited, and it works every single time. When I try to rely on my own wisdom, sometimes it looks like success, but it builds false hope. Following His instructions guarantees His results.

The qualities Paul lists for church leaders aren’t unique requirements—they’re marks of every disciple of Jesus. For leaders, it just has to be visible, because example shapes expectation. God’s commands don’t weigh us down; they protect us, guide us, and keep us out of the ditch so we can move forward with strength.
