“For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect?”
Romans 3:3 (NKJV)
The Jewish people had entered into a covenant with God and were given the oracles of God, the Scriptures. They were entrusted with God’s thoughts and God’s ways and expected to pass that down. What if they did not trust the very Word that God had entrusted to them for their benefit? Would their unbelief cancel out God’s faithfulness?
If you do not obey God, or do not believe Him enough to follow what He says, does that cancel His promise? Is God’s faithfulness dependent on you? Certainly not. When there is a gap between what God has spoken and what you see in your life, do not begin by putting God on trial. His Word stands. God remains faithful, even when we don’t.
Romans 9:30 through 10:4 shows us that Gentiles who did not pursue the righteousness of God obtained it through faith in Jesus. But Israel pursued God’s righteousness through works. They did not submit to the righteous path that God provided to them. The Jews went their own way. Jesus Christ is the end of the law so that everyone who believes in Him may be righteous in God’s sight. God is still faithful to provide us righteousness if we’ll accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Today, if there’s anything in your life that makes you question God’s Word, God’s promises, or God’s faithfulness, I pray that you’ll humble yourself and recognize how good He is. God loves you so much. He cares for you. His mercy never runs out. Stand in faith today and recognize your responsibility as one grafted into Israel: to honor the Word of God, to live by it, to share it with others, trust in it, and wait in faith when you don’t see the fulfillment of what God promised yet.
